Playing with Casey

The page offers a playable intro: the real 900words app, running in your browser. On a larger screen it loads with the page, when you scroll near it; on a phone it loads when you press Play. It keeps nothing on your device. Close or reload the page and it starts over.

When you first tap or type in the intro, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are a person. Until then, nothing is sent to Cloudflare's check or to Casey. For that check, Cloudflare processes your IP address and signals from your browser. Turnstile is served from challenges.cloudflare.com and may set its own cookies there; we set none.

While you play, the words on the board and the clues you type are sent to our Casey server (casey.900words.app, which runs on Cloudflare). To choose Casey's clues and guesses it asks our model provider, Ollama. We do not store your clues. To keep the cost of the demo in check, our server counts requests each day: in total, per visit, and per network. The per-network count is kept under a one-way code that changes every day, never your address, and all counts are deleted after two days. It also limits how many requests one IP address can make in a minute, without storing the address. Its own logs record only what kind of request it was and how long it took.

Two third parties are technically involved in serving the site: our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver the pages, and the Caveat font loads from Google Fonts, whose servers see the standard font request.
